Today's Certification Headlines

Two significant updates hit the certification world today. CompTIA signaled a coming shift in Security+ exam content that every current candidate should know about, and Scrum Alliance confirmed fee changes that affect anyone holding or pursuing the CSM credential.

CompTIA Security+: New Exam Objectives Preview for SY0-702

CompTIA published a preview of the updated Security+ exam objectives for the SY0-702 release, targeted for late 2026. The most notable shift is an expanded AI threat response domain, now comprising roughly 18% of the exam — up from 12% in the current SY0-701 version. Identity and access management weighting remains stable at 25%.

If you're currently studying for SY0-701, there's no immediate urgency — CompTIA typically runs the prior version for 6–12 months after a new release. But if your exam date extends into late 2026, confirm which version you're registering for before purchasing study materials.

The current SY0-701 exam costs approximately $392, requires up to 90 questions in 90 minutes, and a passing score of 750/900. Those facts remain unchanged for now.

Certified Scrum Master: Renewal Fee Increase Effective July 2026

Scrum Alliance confirmed that CSM two-year renewal fees will increase starting July 1, 2026. The current renewal fee of $100 will rise to $125 for members and $150 for non-members. The change applies to renewals processed on or after that date — renewals completed before July 1 lock in the current rate.

If your CSM is up for renewal in the second half of 2026, renewing early is straightforward: complete your 20 required SEUs, log them in your Scrum Alliance dashboard, and submit before the deadline. The fee is separate from your annual Scrum Alliance membership, if you carry one.
